The
annual meeting of the 47-member leading committee of the 7th State Sangha Maha
Nayaka Committee began at the Wizaya Mingalar Dhammathabin Hall on Kaba Aye
Hill in Yangon yesterday.
The
meeting was attended by Chairman Sayadaw of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka
Committee Abhidhaja Maharattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Bhamo
Sayadaw Dr. Bhaddanta Kumarabhivamsa, member sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha
Nayaka Committee, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung
Ko and officials of the ministry. In his opening address at the meeting, Bhamo
Sayadaw stressed the need to publish books on Theravada Buddhism after
scrutinisation, to prevent disputes over writings in the books.
He
also called for enforcing religious rules on presiding sayadaws of monasteries,
monks and novices as part of efforts for purification of Buddhism.
Sayadaw
Dr. Bhaddanta Kumarabhivamsa also suggested the sayadaws join hands with local
authorities to prevent groups from seeking donations from people for the
construction of religious buildings.
Following
his opening address, Thura U Aung Ko supplicated matters on religious affairs.
At
the meeting, the 47 sayadaws discussed matters related to religious and
educational affairs.
