The Ministry of Information launched the Online News
Portal and Digital Newspaper yesterday, stepping into the electronic media world.
In his opening address at the ceremony to officially
launch Myanmar Digital News (MDN), a joint venture between the Ministry of
Information and Megalink Advanced Technologies Co, Union Minister for
Information Dr Pe Myint expressed the role of the elected government, saying
that the incumbent government is elected by the people and it has a
responsibility to inform the people of its works and to inform the people what
is happening in the country. “The ministry decided to launch the MDN digital
newspaper as digital or online media becomes popular in the country. It is
found that today people consume news on mobile phones rather than on paper, and
other private media turn to online media in Myanmar,”said the Union Minister.
Meanwhile, the state-owned media has the responsibility to convey the opinion
of the people to the governmental officials, he added. He also invited
suggestions from officials and the public to improve the ministry’s digital
media so that it can benefit the people. The launching ceremony to formally
open the digital news operation was led by Dr. Pe Myint, Managing Director of
the News and Periodicals Enterprise U Kyaw Soe and Megalink Advanced
Technologies Co Ltd’s CEO U Than Htaik at Thingaha Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.
Myanmar Digital News (MDN) offers two state-run print media in the Burmese
language, The Kyemon and The Myanma Alin, and one joint-venture print
publication, The Global New Light of Myanmar, on mobile phones with its
application. Besides, news and feature articles, there will be stories on the
political, economic, educational, social, and editorial topics, in addition to
opinion, TV, ethnic affairs, speeches and entertainment. All will be available
via the MDN.
