Local
merchants has offered to buy rice from Rakhine State at the price of Ks 310,000
for 100 baskets, according to the Myanmar Rice Federation.
“Most
of the merchants are from Rakhine State. We are giving priority to the local
merchants to buy the rice,” said U Thaung Win, the member of Central Executive
Committee of Myanmar Rice Federation.
Ripe
monsoon rice in Buthidaung and Maungtaw region is being harvested by
Agricultural Mechanisation Department (AMD) to prevent waste, with the
harvested rice systematically handed over to rice receiving and storing
committees.
The
Rakhine State government committee will take measures for selling the rice from
the paddy farms which were abandoned by ownersp.
“The
government committee will give back the money from selling rice to the owners
when they come back to their home.” said U Thaung Win.
“Currently,
the paddy was harvested in Maungtaw Township, Rakhine State with the assistance
of the Agricultural Mechanisation Department. There are also many farmland
which need harvestors. It can produce maximum 2 million baskets,” said U Kyaw
Win, the vice chairman of Myanmar Rice Merchants Association.
The
Agricultural Mechanisation Department is planning to harvest paddy in more than
20,000 acres in Maungtaw region within three months. Myanmar Rice Federation
has already made arrangement to provide the storage service for the post
harvest paddy, it is learnt.
