BANGLADESH increased its import of marine products
from Myanmar via Sittway border trade camp in last November, according to
border authorities.
From 25 November and 1 December of this year,
Myanmar exported a wide variety of freshwater fish weighing 105 tonnes to the
People’s Republic of Bangladesh, earning US$0.099 million. The current figures
show an increase of 45 tonnes against the previous week’s export of 60 tonnes.
In addition, the country also exported $0.124
million worth of low-quality Emahta rice and plum jam weighing 347 tonnes to
the neighbour within the aforesaid week. Ginger, peanuts, mung bean, dried
plums, garlic, rice, saltwater prawn and fish, bamboo, blankets, candy, plum
jam and footwear are included on the list of main export items at
Myanmar-Bangladesh borders.
Myanmar’s international trade through sea routes
accounted for 80 per cent of the total, and the rest was conducted via border
gates. The country conducts its border trade with neighbouring countries via 16
land border gates.
