Aung San Suu Kyi holds talks with US Secretary of State, UN Secretary-General
State
Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi held talks with US Secretary of State Rex
Tillerson on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Manila yesterday.
At
the meeting, they discussed issues including democratic transition, the peace
process, the economy, investment and the latest developments in Rakhine State.
Following
the meeting, the State Counsellor attended the 20th ASEAN Plus Three Summit,
the ASEAN Plus Canada 40th Anniversary Commemorative Summit, and the ASEAN-EU
40th Anniversary Commemorative Summit in Manila.
After
the luncheon hosted by the President of the Philippines Mr. Rodrigo Duterte,
State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attended the 12th East Asia Summit, and
the 15th ASEAN-India Summit.
In
the evening, she attended a ceremony to sign the Consensus on the Protection
and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers, the closing ceremony of the
31st ASEAN Summit and a ceremony to hand over the chairmanship of ASEAN to
Singapore.
At
the ceremony, Mr Duterte expressed words of thanks and Singapore Prime Minister
Mr. Lee Hsien Loong took over the chairmanship and extended greetings. Also
present at the ceremony were leaders of the 10 ASEAN countries, leaders of
ASEAN dialogue partners, the Secretary-General of ASEAN permanent
representatives of ASEAN and senior officials of ASEAN nations.
On
Monday evening, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attended the ASEAN Plus Three Leaders’
Interface with the East Asia Business Council, the 9th Mekong-Japan Summit and
the 9th ASEAN-UN Summit at the Philippines International Convention Centre
(PICC). She also met with UN Secretary-General Mr. Antonio Guterres, exchanging
views on the latest development in Rakhine State and the UN’s participation in
implementing the special advisory commission’s recommendations in Rakhine
State.
