Diplomats
request to make the trip on 2 Oct after bad weather
A
planned visit by UN agencies and diplomats to northern Rakhine was postponed
due to weather following a request from the dean of the Myanmar diplomatic
corps yesterday.
The
trip will instead be made on Monday, according to the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs.
The
decision was made while the diplomats and UN agency members were assembled at
Yangon International Airport, where their flight to Sittway was delayed due to
bad weather in Rakhine State.
The
scheduled flight for the UN officials and the diplomats had already been
delayed for two hours before the decision was reached to postpone the trip
until 2 October. “We asked all UN officials and diplomats about their desire at
the airport after two hours delay behind the departure. We decided to postpone
the trip to Monday by majority votes,” U Min Thein, Deputy Director-General of
the International Organisations and Economic Department.
