VICE President U
Myint Swe met with personnel concerned for drawing up plans for a Myanmar-owned
satellite system at the Ministry of Transport and Communications yesterday,
according to a report by Myanmar News Agency.
The group wants to help Myanmar become one of several dozen nations which own satellite infrastructure for cross-sector development and security tasks.
Myanmar currently leases time on satellites owned by other nations and corporations. The government is considering a proposal to launch an American-manufactured satellite and to enter into a lease-to-own agreement. The satellite would communicate on six C-band frequencies and six Ku-band frequencies.
After the Vice President’s visit, the Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Thant Sin Maung, who is leading the satellite purchase plan, lead the strategy meeting.
