Organizers of
the 70th Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day Commemoration met at the administrative
office of Martyrs’ Mausoleum yesterday, according to a Myanmar News Agency
report.
Commemoration patron Vice President U Myint Swe attended the meeting and delivered a speech explaining that the event would reflect on the legacy of Bogyoke Aung San and his colleagues who sacrificed their lives for the country and encourage peope to consider the sacrifice of so many lives in pursuit of independence.
The Vice President said the event will also help people remember the role of Myanmar’s national leaders so they will never forget the contributions they made and inspire patriotism in future generations.
The organizing
committee is comprised of 18 members. There is also a working committee of 26
members. The first meeting of the group was held in Nay Pyi Taw on 16
June. While visiting the Bogyoke Residence Museum and the Old Secretariat
Builiding the committee formed eight sub-committees, took 22 decisions and
established 10 points of action.
Other members of the organizing committee present yesterday included Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung Ko, Chief Minister of Yangon Region Government U Phyo Min Thein and Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Major General Aung Soe.
