We need zeal and
perseverance to realize our goal. Once in a boat race in Pathein, rowers
stopped paddling and lifted their oars when they achieved a slight lead over
their competitors’ boat. We, the Myanmar people, to often give up before
reaching their goal. We can say this is the Myanmar spirit under enslavement. I
warn all of you against this spirit. Come hell or high water, you must never
give up.

the last address Bogyoke Aung San delivered from the City Hall in front of Maha
Bandoola Park in Yangon on 13 July 1947)
