National League for Democracy holds seventh formal meeting

Myanmar’s governing party addressed economic and political challenges faced by the nation and by various regions and states, obstacles to the peace process and internal party issues at its seventh annual leadership meeting in Bahan on Saturday and Sunday.  Attendees included 120 members of the central executive committee, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Win Myint, region and state NLD central committee members, chief ministers and region and state hluttaw speakers.

Region and state NLD central committee members read out political reports.

Other topics taken up by the conference included the drug problem, land seizures and financial issues. The party also reorganized aspects of its bureaucracy, established new political courses, collected annual membership fees, planned a youth conference and organized documentation of region and state reports.  The NLD leadership predicted strong economic growth and increased investment, said Monywa U Aung Shin, a central committee member.
