HIMALAYA
Airlines, a Nepal-China joint venture, plans to fly the Yangon-Nepal route
twice a week starting in October of this year, according to a spokesperson of
the Unique Asia Tourism Company.
Currently,
Himalaya Airlines operates a flight from Yangon to Nepal every Friday, but now
plan to run the flight on Mondays and Fridays. Based on the increasing number
of passengers, the airline will expand its aviation services to Myanmar.
The airline
launched commercial flight to Yangon on 24 February. The airline said the
flights to Myanmar were part of their initiative to strengthen direct
connections with the approximately 300,000 people of Nepali origin residing
here.
The direct
flights will help boost the economy of both countries as well as the tourism
industry, said Mr Vijay Shrestha, vice-president of Himalaya Airlines.
Transportation
plays an essential part in tourism development of the country. Myanmar’s
tourism industry is in a period of exponential growth. According to the
ministry’s master plan (2013-2020) based on the country’s conditions, tourist
arrivals are estimated to hit 7.49 million by 2020.
