Police ask public for information on fatal shooting Sunday at Yangon airport

The Myanmar Police Force (MPF) issued an announcement yesterday requesting that people with information on anyone involved in the fatal shooting Sunday of U Ko Ni, a prominent legal advisor of the National League for Democracy, should come forward.

MPF announced its hotline numbers for reporting information about the shooting.
U Ko Ni was fatally shot at close range outside Terminal 1 of Yangon International Airport on Sunday afternoon after his arrival back from Indonesia as part of a Myanmar delegation. Police and people nearby managed to arrest the gunman shortly after he killed U Ko Ni and U Nay Win, 42, a taxi driver who was also shot and died on the way to the hospital.
The MPF disclosed that they had arrested a man they suspect is the gunman, Kyi Lin, 53, with his father’s name U Hlaing, Pon Nagone Quarter, Maha Aungmyay Township. Mingaladon Police Station has charged him in accordance with the law. The suspect is under interrogation, the announcement said.
The MPF said it has set up the following hotlines for people with information in connection with the shooting.
