After
the Tatmadaw had seized outposts of KIA insurgents including the fortified
Gidon Post in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State on 16 this month, its columns
launched a trail attack on the point 768 (Lai Hpawng by KIA) which is located
seven miles east of Myitkyina-Bhamo road and where 3rd battalion under 5th
brigade of KIA insurgents headquartered on 21 this month.
Based
on this initial attack, the Tatmadaw made necessary preparations in detail, and
launched attack with the supporting aerial bombardment and infantry, artillery,
tank and heavy weapon assaults in the morning.
The
first post was overrun at 3.30 pm today. Follow-up Tatmadaw offensive attacks
led to the fall of the main enemy defence hill and six minor posts at 5.15 pm.
Today’s captured Point-768 (Lai Hpawng called by KIA) post is located on the
other side of Nanttaphat creek, opposite of which lies Battalion 252’s Gidon
Post that KIA lost on 16 December.
It
is also a post built to provide security for the communication route to KIA
Headquarters Liza, Lisinpote and other posts around No.6 boundary post
estimated map reference (MJ- 022995) and threaten Myitkyina and Waingmaw
townships.
The
post was also used as a communication route to Brigade 1-controlled Ingunla
region. Although KIA outposts have been occupied, information about
redeployment and casualties from both sides is being collected in detail
according to time limit. After that, further news will be released, according
to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief.
