Parliamentarians commemorate Kayin New Year at residence of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

In commemoration of the Kayin New Year 2756 KE, Kayin national parliamentarians from Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyotha Hluttaw came to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s house to sing psalms and Kayin New Year songs on Tuesday evening, it is learnt.

Kayin New Year Day is annually held in the regions where Kayin nationals reside. Kayin nationals performing duties in Nay Pyi Taw assembles on Kayin New Year Day, inviting other brethren to take part in their celebration by visiting others to entertain with songs.

The Kayin New Year Festival is to be celebrated in Nya Pyi Taw on 29 December as a holy traditional festival with pomp and circumstance that includes the traditional festival of eating the first crop of the year, exhibition of traditional commodities and traditional dance.
