Kayin New Year festival held on a grand scale in National Races Village in Thaketa

A festival marking the Kayin New Year for 2756 Kayin Era was held by the Organizing Committee for East Yangon Kayin New Year at the National Races Village in Tharketa in Yangon yesterday.

In the morning, Kayin nationals raised the flag of Kayin Nationals at the green of the Union Hall of the village before Buddhist Kayins offered meals to Buddhist monks at their houses and Christian Kayins said New Year prayers and paid respects to elders at their houses at the National Races Village.
At 10 in the morning, the New Year ceremony started with the banging of the Auspicious Drum and water-buffalo horn was played before saluting the State Flag and the Kayin National Flag.
At the new year ceremony, Phado Saw Tun Aung, member of the Union Peace Dialogues Joint Committee, delivered the opening address and read out the message of Yangon Region Kayin Ethnic Affairs Minister Naw Pann Thinza Myo.
Then, the Kayin Ethnic Affairs Minister Naw Pann Thinza Myo and Rakhine Ethnic Affairs Minister U Zaw Aye Maung delivered speeches at the ceremony.
