Zhong Tong electric vehicles will be used to operate express bus services on the Yangon-Pathein route, according to the Ayeyawady Region Automobile Production and Distribution Entrepreneurs Association.
Zhong
Tong-brand electric express buses are expected to begin operating on the
Yangon-Pathein highway, a major transport route serving the Ayeyawady Region.
Although plans were previously made to test electric taxis on this route,
preparations are now underway to introduce larger electric express buses.
The
operation of these electric express buses is expected to provide passengers
with quiet, smooth and comfortable journeys while helping to reduce
environmental pollution. As thousands of vehicles travel along the
Yangon-Pathein highway every day, the introduction of electric express buses is
expected to make travel more convenient and comfortable for the public.
The
Yangon-Pathein highway covers a distance of 113 miles and two furlongs. In
addition to connecting Yangon and Pathein, the highway provides access to
Hinthada, Myaungmya, Labutta and Wakema via Bo Myat Tun Bridge over the
Ayeyawady River at milepost 41/3, as well as to Maubin Township via milepost
33. According to reports, approximately 3,800 vehicles travel daily between
Yangon and Bo Myat Tun Bridge, while around 2,700 vehicles travel daily between
Bo Myat Tun Bridge and Pathein.
