Toungoo beefs up agriculture, livestock and regional development projects

Union Minister at the President’s Office U Tin Aung San, who also serves as Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Implementation of Economic Development and Special Development Areas Based on Agriculture and Livestock Breeding in Meiktila, Yamethin and Toungoo districts, with Nay Pyi Taw as the focal point, inspected efforts in implementing the special development area in Toungoo District of Bago Region on 6 November.

At the meeting with officials at Khaboung Hall in Toungoo, the Union minister noted that it is necessary to promote agro-based industries that use industrial technologies to transform raw materials from the agriculture, livestock breeding and forestry sectors into value-added products.

He stressed that in raising chickens, pigs, goats and cattle in the district, livestock breeding should be expanded to include fish and ducks, taking advantage of the favourable rainfall conditions. Efforts should also be made to develop MSME businesses producing chicken meat, eggs and frozen meat into model enterprises.

The Union minister underlined that a clean and green town plan must be implemented in Toungoo with systematic municipal areas, urban areas and roads.

The Union minister attended the harvesting of the model plot on Htihlaing Road in Toungoo. He also visited the Aden strain poultry farm of U Saw El Do in Zeedaing Village of Toungoo Township. He urged the farmer to keep breeding records, improve the linkage with the meat production market and contribute to ensuring local food security.

While in Toungoo, the Union minister visited the Ayemyitta 100-tonne rice mill, inspected construction of the Toungoo detour railway and the fish farm of Kaytumadi Fish Farming Production Cooperative Limited.

He also observed breeding tasks at the pig farm in Mahin Village, production at the Pangaba paper mill in Thawunnge Ward, the rice noodle industry in Natshinnaung Ward, the layer farm and Khaing Shwewah oil mill in Kyungon Village-tract, and the bamboo chopsticks industry in Indaing Village.
