NEW modern Mingala Market located in Yangon Region’s Mingala Taungnyunt Township is being planned to open in November, after reconstruction works completed, according to the Yangon City Development Committee. Opening is expected to be 1-5 November, and currently, shop relocations have been allowed as of 28 October, said a shop owner.
“Exact date for opening is still
unknown, but it’s sure it will be in November first week. At present, shop
owners have made preparations inside the new building,” said a shop owner. It
is an eight-storey building, initial owners will be allocated for four floors
and the construction company will receive the rest four floors, according to a
source close to YCDC.
At the market, 4,067 YCDC-owned shops will need to reopen and shop owners will be re-allocated according to their initial shop numbers. The old building of the market caught fire twice in May 2010 and January 2016.
