U Khin Yi, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker and Vice-Chairman of the Myanmar Parliamentary Union (MPU), held a meeting with the Bago Region Chief Minister, the Region Hluttaw Speaker and Deputy Speaker, and regional MPs at the Oktha Pyae Sone Hall of the Bago Region Hluttaw Office yesterday morning.
At the
meeting, he said the MPU was established to promote coordination between the
Union-level Hluttaws and Region and State Hluttaws, ensure cooperation in
parliamentary affairs in accordance with the law, and strengthen relations with
international parliamentary organizations.
He stressed
the importance of developing modern, capable and people-centred Hluttaws,
noting that all parliamentary representatives share the responsibilities of
lawmaking, representing the people and working with other branches of
government.
He also
highlighted the Pyithu Hluttaw’s Five-Year Strategic Plan (2027-2031), which
focuses on effective lawmaking, oversight and accountability, public
representation, international parliamentary cooperation, staff
capacity-building, research development and digital parliamentary systems. He
encouraged the Bago Region Hluttaw to develop strategies suited to its needs.
He further
urged MPs to draft a code of conduct, strengthen their legal knowledge and
public engagement, and raise well-informed questions and motions using
appropriate official terminology. He also recommended public awareness
programmes such as “Know Parliament”, “See Parliament” and “Open Parliament”,
while stressing the need for parliamentary staff to continuously improve their
technical, administrative and legal knowledge.
Bago Region
Hluttaw Speaker U Aung Cho Oo explained the Hluttaw operations, and the Pyithu
Hluttaw Speaker concluded the meeting.
