THE Government has prioritized efforts to combat online fraud and online gambling as a national duty, coordinating not only with domestic forces but also with neighbouring governments to conduct effective inspections and crackdowns to prevent such syndicates from gaining a foothold in the country. As part of these operations, the demolition of remaining unauthorized buildings previously used for online fraud and gambling operations in the Shwe Kokko area commenced yesterday under Phase II.
To halt online scams
and gambling activities heavily concentrated in the Shwe Kokko and KK Park
areas, the Government gathered intelligence, drew up detailed operational plans
and carried out clearance operations. Multi-agency joint task forces comprising
security forces, administrative bodies and local authorities have been
systematically destroying seized equipment and completely demolishing
unauthorized structures.
In KK Park, authorities
uncovered and cleared 635 unauthorized buildings used for illegal online fraud
and gambling activities. To ensure that such operations could not be
re-established in the area, the structures were earmarked for complete
demolition across three designated phases. As previously announced, all 635
buildings were entirely and systematically demolished by 9 January 2026.
Similarly, inspections
were conducted in the Shwe Kokko area to root out online fraud and gambling
activities, uncovering 140 buildings used for such illicit operations. These
properties were sealed off and designated for complete demolition according to
their structural categories. Under Phase 1, 77 buildings were systematically
demolished on 26 July.
Under Phase II, the
remaining 63 buildings have been categorized according to their demolition
methods. Of these, 25 buildings are to be demolished using heavy machinery,
four buildings are to be brought down through controlled implosion, and 34
buildings located close to residential dwellings are to be dismantled floor by
floor using manual labour.
Demolition work is
currently underway, with a five-storey building among those designated for
mechanical demolition being brought down today.
Of the 140 buildings in
the Shwe Kokko area used for online fraud and gambling operations, 77 have
already been demolished. Work is currently underway on one building, while the
remaining 62 structures will continue to be systematically demolished in accordance
with the designated plans.
As online scams and
fraudulent gambling operations pose a threat to global socioeconomic stability
and national security, the Government is collaborating with neighbouring and
regional countries to implement structured plans aimed at their complete eradication.
In particular, authorities are effectively identifying and dismantling scam
networks operating in remote border areas, taking stern and decisive action
against perpetrators within the country, and placing special emphasis on
eradicating online scam and gambling activities once and for all.
