Pyay Shwesandaw to host Buddha Pujaniya Festival

THE Buddha Pujaniya Festival at Shwesandaw Pagoda in Pyay Township, Bago Region, will be held on a grand scale from the 8th to the 11th waxing days of Tazaungmone, from 17 to 20 November, according to U Myat Soe, a member of the pagoda’s board of trustees.

The festival will include a consecration ceremony, an opening ceremony and a rice-offering ceremony for 109 venerable monks on the morning of 17 November, the 8th waxing day of Tazaungmone.

“The annual Buddha Pujaniya Festival at Shwesandaw Pagoda will be held on a grand scale, as usual. The opening ceremony, alms-giving ceremony and rice-offering ceremony will take place on the 8th waxing day of Tazaungmone.

“The procession of the Buddha’s sacred Tooth Relic, which has been enshrined at Myatswetaw Temple in the pagoda compound for a year, will take place on the 11th waxing day of Tazaungmone, when the relic will be displayed on the pagoda platform.

“On the 2nd waning day of Tazaungmone, the Tooth Relic will be returned to Myatswetaw Temple, where it will be enshrined for another year. As the relic will be on display during the Tazaungdine festival period, the Tazaungdine Festival of Lights will also be held,” U Myat Soe said.

On the evening of 26 November, the 2nd waning day of Tazaungmone, the Buddha’s sacred Tooth Relic will be returned to the temple, where it will be enshrined for one year.
