The Kachin State Government held an El Niño disaster awareness talk at the Sankar temporary displacement camp in Myitkyina at 10:30 am yesterday.
Kachin State Chief
Minister U Khet Htein Nan highlighted that while the regional government is
implementing precautionary measures against El Niño-induced hazards, public
cooperation and awareness are vital to minimizing damage and responding
effectively to natural disasters.
Departmental officials
briefed temporarily displaced families on the science behind El Niño, the
impacts of global climate change, and preventive health practices. Following
presentations and inquiries from camp residents, the Chief Minister outlined
current preparations to prevent water shortages and deliver healthcare
services. Concluding the event, state ministers and representatives from local
women’s affairs and maternal and child welfare supervisory committees
distributed educational pamphlets detailing preparedness guidelines to camp
households.
