THE Asia-Pacific Media Forum took place at the Qianhai International Convention Centre in China yesterday morning.
The forum was attended
by representatives of media organizations from China and Asia-Pacific
countries, officials from international organizations, and journalists.
During the opening
ceremony, United Nations Under-Secretary-General Melissa Fleming,
Editor-in-Chief of Xinhua News Agency Mr Lyu Yansong, and representatives from
Pakistan, Russia, the IMF, CNN, Peru and China Power Grid Co Ltd delivered
remarks. This was followed by the exchange of memorandums of understanding on
media cooperation.
Deputy Minister for
Information U Ye Tint also delivered remarks.
He stated, “In the
digital world, alongside the rapid flow of information and advancements, there
are also many challenges that need to be addressed and tackled. In this era,
all are facing the spread of fake and false news, the technological divide, and
many global challenges. Meanwhile, the role of the media has become even more
crucial in building peace, stability, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific
region, and in constructing a stable, peaceful, and harmonious society.”
The deputy minister
also pointed out, “First, we must place truth, accuracy, and accountability
above speed. Second, we must respect different histories, cultures, and
development paths, while avoiding stereotypes and one-sided narratives. Third,
we should not only report problems; we should also share successful
cooperation, innovative solutions, and development experiences that make a real
difference in people’s lives.”
During the forum, the
deputy minister replied to the questions raised by journalist Feng Shuoren of
Xinhua News Agency regarding Asia-Pacific communication and the China
International Import Expo (CIIE).
