Chin State accelerates rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts

 

THE State is focusing on accelerating rehabilitation and reconstruction work in Chin State and has formed committees to supervise the work on the ground.

Speaking at a meeting with religious leaders and village elders at the Falam District General Administration Department, Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thant Zaw Lwin said partially damaged departmental buildings were being repaired, while corrugated iron sheets and cement were being provided for damaged residential houses. Rice, oil and other food items were also being distributed to people who had returned home, using funds from the National Disaster Management Fund. He stressed the need to step up rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, learn from past experiences and rebuild better.

Chin State Minister for Natural Resources U Win Zaw Oo and members of the Chin State Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Committee explained the work being carried out in Falam Township. Representatives of relevant ministries, religious leaders and village elders also reported on the tasks, while the deputy minister and state minister coordinated with the relevant departments.

The deputy minister and the state minister visited Falam Township Municipal Market and observed the sale of vegetables, meat and fish. They also inspected the Social Welfare Department’s primary school, where officials explained the damage to the building and teaching aids. The deputy minister coordinated the necessary assistance and instructed officials to reopen the school as soon as possible.

At Saint Joseph’s Primary School, officials explained the arrangements for receiving and teaching more than 30 students. The deputy minister and the state minister provided financial assistance to the school.
