Agri Research Dept wins global award at Drylands Congress 2026

The Department of Agricultural Research (DAR) of Myanmar was honoured with a global award at the Drylands Congress 2026 for its work on developing new climate-resilient crops for farmers in the dry zone of central Myanmar.

The event, organized by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), took place in New Delhi, India, from 10 to 12 September. DAR received the award in the Crop Improvement and Production Technologies category as part of the ICRISAT Centre for Excellence for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture (ISSEA) Award 2026. Through collaboration with ICRISAT, DAR identified new varieties of groundnut, chickpea, and pigeon pea that are early-maturing and climate-smart, making them particularly suitable for cultivation in the dry zone.

Among various international research institutes, universities, and non-governmental organizations, Myanmar’s DAR stood out by winning this prestigious award, which will be officially announced on the ICRISAT website.
