The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee held its Coordination Meeting 1/2026 at the Union Government Office Meeting Hall in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday, with Committee Chairman and Vice-President U Nyo Saw presiding.
The meeting
was attended by the vice-chairmen and members of the committee, chairmen of the
special anti-illegal trade task forces from the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area,
regions and states, as well as departmental heads and invited officials.
During the
meeting, Vice-President U Nyo Saw discussed seizures of illegal goods made
between April and July 2026. He emphasized key priorities, including
implementing presidential directives, conducting systematic inspections at
border checkpoints and taking strict legal action against the transportation of
illegal goods. The Chairman instructed authorities to ensure the smooth and
secure flow of cargo along key trade routes and called for the expansion of the
electronic container lock (E-Lock) tracking system across all trade corridors.
He urged all stakeholders to carry out anti-illegal trade operations as a vital
national duty to effectively curb illicit trade.
Afterwards,
Committee Secretary U Win Myint Khine, Deputy Minister for Commerce, presented
progress reports on decisions made at previous meetings and outlined future
operational plans. Steering Committee Vice-Chairpersons: Union Minister for
Home Affairs Lt-Gen Nyunt Win Swe and Union Minister for Finance and Revenue Dr
Kan Zaw, along with Committee members Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn,
Deputy Minister for Defence Maj-Gen Aung Myo Thant, reported on sector-specific
anti-illegal trade operations, achievements and future measures. In addition,
chairmen of the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, regional and state special task
forces reported on the implementation of anti-illegal trade measures on the
ground, followed by discussions among the attendees.
The
Vice-President reviewed the presentations, gave further instructions and
delivered concluding remarks before the meeting was adjourned.
