NSPNC, SSPP hold second round of peace talks

 

THE National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) held peace talks yesterday morning at the Shwe San Eain Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, focusing on local stability, political solutions, and efforts to combat online scams and illegal gambling.

During the meeting, NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae said the SSPP was the first organization to respond to the government’s 21 April 2026 peace call. He emphasized the government’s determination to eliminate key causes of local instability, particularly online fraud and illegal online gambling. He also stressed the importance of preventing armed conflict, which he said results in significant losses of local resources. Lt-Gen Yar Pyae also called for an open discussion on the implementation of decisions reached during the two sides’ initial meeting, including the formation of a joint task force to promote regional stability.

In response, SSPP Vice-Chairman 3 Sao Say Paing Fa expressed hope that the latest talks would build on previous agreements and produce positive outcomes. He reaffirmed the SSPP’s commitment to building a Union based on democracy, federalism, self-determination, and peaceful coexistence, while emphasizing that political issues should be resolved through political dialogue. He added that the SSPP is currently focused on regional development without active clashes with the Tatmadaw, noting that stability is essential for local progress and that peace is indispensable for the country.

During the meeting, both sides discussed resolving political issues through dialogue, advancing an inclusive political process to achieve lasting nationwide peace, and strengthening national solidarity. They also exchanged views on regional security, including cooperation to eradicate online fraud, illegal online gambling, and illicit drugs, as well as the management of territorial boundaries and the maintenance of regional stability. In addition, the delegations discussed regional development priorities, including education, healthcare, and improvements to telecommunications infrastructure, with particular attention to securing MPT internet connectivity in the Wamhai area.

Following the discussions, NSPNC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing responded to the SSPP’s proposals on education, healthcare, and regional development. Both sides then signed and recorded the meeting minutes before exchanging commemorative gifts with closing remarks from the heads of the two delegations.
