MRF and Vietnamese firms discuss rice seed collaboration

A delegation from the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) explored cooperation in rice seed production to accelerate collaboration in the agriculture and seed sectors with two Vietnamese seed companies during the visit to Vietnam between 25 and 31 July.

The MRF delegation visited seed processing plants, farms, and research and development facilities during the trip. They also signed some memoranda of understanding (MoUs), according to the MRF. The discussions also covered the exchange of seed and hybridization technologies, training and capacity-building programs, and joint initiatives to boost agricultural productivity.

The federation is actively working to produce high-quality aromatic rice varieties with long, slender grains that have strong demand and better prices in international markets, as well as production for domestic markets. The private sector is exerting efforts to develop Myanmar’s seed industry.
