Tatmadaw columns systematically conducted counter-terrorism operations to reopen Kalay-Tamu route starting from 7 June, and the column marched from Kalay recaptured the towns and villages along that route. On 28 July, they reoccupied Boatkan Model village whereas another column Yanlinfaing village.
Yesterday,
the Tatmadaw column marching from Tamu regained Witoke, Tetainyan, Yantineaung
villages and vicinity areas, and the column from Kalay Twiban village, and also
seized bombs, explosives, homemade mines and other materials. Meanwhile, the
terrorists retreated with huge causalities.
While
occupying the villages, Tatmadaw found out that the insurgents had allegedly
intimidated residents, extorted money by force of arms, and established
checkpoints made of sandbags along roadsides. They had also converted
civilians’ houses into defensive positions, constructing fortified firing
points, bunkers and communication trenches using sandbags and logs, which were
seized by the Tatmadaw.
Tatmadaw
columns will continue Counter-Terrorism Operation and mine clearance
operations, and reconstruction work on damaged roads and bridges along the
Kalay-Tamu will also be carried out.
