The national-level monsoon tree-growing ceremony 2026 took place in Block 2 of the Maymyo firewood reserve in PyinOoLwin Township yesterday morning, attended by President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing, who planted a Jacaranda sapling.
Speaking
on the occasion, the President announced that the PyinOoLwin Greening Project,
launched this year, aims to preserve the city for future generations as a model
of sustainable urban development, greener with abundant trees and forests,
healthier and more livable, clean, well maintained, and environmentally
resilient. He noted that forest plantations are being established in the
northern, southern, and eastern parts of PyinOoLwin, with 400,000 saplings to
be planted across 15 plots covering 2,000 acres of project land.
The
President urged the relevant departments to establish urban forest plantations
and community forest areas to expand the city’s green zones. He revealed that
the Mandalay Region Forest Department plans to distribute more than one million
saplings to the people and government departments to plant them along both
sides of roads and railways.
At
the ceremony, the President planted a Jacaranda sapling at the designated
venue.
The
dignitaries who accompanied the President, the Mandalay Region chief minister,
the region-level authorities, senior Tatmadaw officers, departmental personnel,
students and teachers participated in the tree-growing activities.
The
President and his party observed the public’s participation in the tree
planting activities.
A
total of 3,000 saplings of cherry, starflower, Jacaranda, gold mohur, ironwood,
mahogany and other evergreen species were planted at the national-level monsoon
tree-growing ceremony 2026 in PyinOoLwin Township yesterday.
The
first national tree planting ceremony was held in Nay Pyi Taw on 13 June, where
3,000 saplings were planted. On the same day, people across the country
participated in planting 80,520 saplings at 111 locations nationwide. The
second ceremony took place in Nay Pyi Taw on 25 June, adding another 3,000
saplings.
