The Yoga demonstration with the collective practice marked the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026 at the water fountain square in the Maravijaya Buddha Park in Dekkhinathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw of Union Territory yesterday morning, with the participation of Vice-President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Nyo Saw.
Also present at the demonstration were Union Minister U Tin
Oo Lwin, deputy ministers, members of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, the Indian
Ambassador to Myanmar and embassy officials, departmental heads and officials.
Indian Ambassador Mr Abhay Thakur extended greetings.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-President U Nyo Saw said that
the International Day of Yoga ceremonies were successfully held in Myanmar in
2024 and 2025 at the Fountain Square inside the Maravijaya Buddha Park based on
the cordial relations between Myanmar and India, and with the approval of the
Head of State of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the arrangements made
by the Indian Embassy. This year as well, the event will be successfully
organized within the precincts of the Maravijaya Buddha Image, as in previous
years.
He continued that the theme of the 2026 International Day of
Yoga programme is “Yoga for Wellness, Wisdom, and World Peace.” The true
meaning of wellness includes not only physical fitness and good health, but
also mental clarity, compassionate behaviour, and peaceful relations among
people and between nations. The continued annual observance of the
International Day of Yoga in Myanmar reflects the growing warmth in relations
between the two countries and the increasing mutual understanding and appreciation
of each other’s cultures.
The Vice-President and attendees participated in the
collective Yoga practice under the guidance of Yoda instructors. The Director
of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre spoke words of thanks.
