The government continues to conduct joint operations in the Shwe Kokko and the KK Park areas, where suspects commit telecom fraud and online gambling activities. The combined teams comprising security personnel and administrative bodies are involved in these operations, which include entering the areas, dismantling and removing illegal buildings, and taking further action in accordance with the law.
During these operations, authorities identified 635 illegal buildings in the KK Park area that had been used for online scams and gambling operations. In order to ensure that online scam activities cannot re-establish themselves in the area and to prevent further criminal activities, complete demolition operations were carried out in three phases. It was announced on 9 January 2026 that all illegal buildings in the KK Park area had been completely and systematically demolished.
Similarly, in the Shwe Kokko area, inspections and searches were conducted on 322 illegal buildings to prevent online scams and gambling operations. Among them, 77 buildings were identified as being used for such criminal activities. These buildings were sealed off and classified into two stages for demolition according to building type: 57 buildings to be demolished using heavy machinery in the first stage, and 20 buildings to be destroyed by controlled explosions in the second stage.
Yesterday, out of 57 buildings, two four-storey buildings used for online scams were systematically demolished using machinery, and as one 13-storey building had already been demolished previously, a total of three buildings have now been destroyed. Therefore, out of the 77 illegal buildings, 74 buildings still remain to be demolished, and authorities stated that systematic demolition operations will continue.
The government considers the eradication of telecom fraud and online gambling crimes as a national responsibility and, to ensure that such activities can no longer operate within Myanmar, will continue its efforts in coordination not only with domestic forces but also with the governments of neighbouring countries.
