Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Ye Win Oo received a delegation led by Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, at the hall of Zeyathiri Beikman in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
At the meeting, they
cordially discussed the measures to enhance friendly relations and further
cooperation between the two countries and their armed forces, conditions that
have enabled the strengthening of close and cordial relations through mutual
visits by State and military leaders, as well as matters related to the
exchange of friendship visits at various levels between the two armed forces.
Furthermore, they
frankly exchanged views on measures to enhance border security and regional
peace and stability, including conditions for strengthened cooperation to wipe
out terrorist groups along the border areas of the two countries. Their
discussions also included the arrangements for security cooperation between the
two sides, as well as cooperation between the two navies in conducting joint
military exercises aimed at improving operational capabilities.
Their discussions
covered the arrangements for the reciprocal exchange of cultural and sports
teams between the two armed forces, issues related to maritime trade, and the
sending of trainees between the two sides. They also exchanged views in a
friendly and open manner on Myanmar’s efforts to successfully hold a fair and
dignified election and, as a government representing the people, to continue
moving forward in accordance with the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence
with neighbouring countries, while maintaining a balanced approach to promoting
regional interests.
After the meeting, they
exchanged commemorative gifts.
Present at the Defence
Services Commander-in-Chief were Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Htein Win,
Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) Lt-Gen Ko Ko Oo, and senior
Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief. The Chief of the
Naval Staff of the Indian Navy was accompanied by Mr Abhay Thakur, Ambassador
of India to Myanmar, Colonel Jaswinder Singh Gill, Defence Attache of the
Indian Army to Myanmar, Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, Naval Attache of the Indian
Navy to Myanmar, and officials.
