According to the Embassy of India to Myanmar, the MV Taw Win Thiri, carrying 400 tonnes of general cargo from India, arrived at the Sittway Port in Rakhine State as the 330th vessel to dock at the port.
The Sittway
Port is an important port under the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport
Project (KMMTTP), which was implemented with assistance from the Government of
India. The project is intended to enhance regional integration and facilitate
the movement of humanitarian and commercial goods.
The project
was implemented to transport essential goods to the landlocked regions of
India, where transport links are difficult, by connecting Sittway to Paletwa
through inland waterways and road networks. The project includes Sittway Port,
the Paletwa Inland Water Terminal, the Kaladan River Bridge, and the
Paletwa–Mizoram Road.
The Kaladan
River Basin Development Project is a joint cooperation project with India and
is expected not only to improve connectivity between Myanmar and India, but
also to further promote bilateral trade between the two countries.
