Hluttaw Reps Bridge Public-Government Gap

Hluttaw representatives have to review and compare the actual situations occurring in the country with the existing laws, and to provide level protection for the citizens, said U Khin Yi, Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, at the meeting with Hluttaw representatives of the Pyithu Hluttaw, Amyotha Hluttaw and Region Hluttaw at the hall of the Yangon Region Hluttaw yesterday morning.

Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker noted that Hluttaw representatives need to coordinate the legislative, executive and judiciary pillars for the people to have genuine, disciplined democratic practices.

He continued that as the legislative pillar, Hluttaw representatives must strive to carry out their responsibilities so that the State and citizens can live in peace and tranquillity under the protection of the law.

He added that when carrying out legislative duties, it is necessary to carefully review whether existing enacted laws are in line with current conditions, whether amendments are required, whether they should be repealed, or whether new laws need to be enacted. Therefore, Hluttaw representatives need to have a sound understanding and proficiency in legal matters.

The Speaker said that Hluttaw representatives serve as a bridge between the public and the government, representing and conveying the aspirations of the people. In carrying out this role, they must engage closely with the public through field visits and establish constituency offices to maintain direct contact, so that public needs and concerns can be addressed promptly.

He stressed that they must strive to become capable representatives who can work in coordination with the State Government to address issues that cause hardship to the public and to effectively implement the people’s aspirations.

He noted that they are also required to strengthen international relations with parliaments around the world, including those within ASEAN, and to make necessary preparations to enhance cooperation across various sectors with parliamentary organizations in the ASEAN region.

The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker held a meeting with the Yangon Region Hluttaw Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, the committee chair and the secretary at the Pearl Hall of the region Hluttaw.

Yangon Region Hluttaw Speaker U Htay Aung reported on parliamentary measures of the region Hluttaw. The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker gave the necessary instructions. The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker then inspected the meeting room of the Region Hluttaw.
