AUTHORITIES transferred 21 foreign nationals linked to online scams, online gambling and other criminal activities in the Myawady-Shwe Kokko area through the Myanmar Thai Friendship Bridge No 2 to their respective countries in line with legal procedures and humanitarian considerations.
The
deportees included five Philippine nationals, five Burundi nationals, five
Kenya nationals, three Uganda nationals and three Sri Lanka nationals who had
illegally entered Myanmar through border routes via neighbouring countries,
including Thailand.
Officials
led by Myawady District Administration Committee chairman U Kaung San Lin
supervised the transfer process and checked records and documents to ensure
accuracy and smooth handover procedures.
From
30 January 2025 to 19 May 2026, authorities detained 14,658 foreign nationals
who entered Myawady Township illegally. Of them, 13,443 have been
systematically deported through Thailand to their respective countries, while
1,215 remain under detention. Authorities said 766 foreigners were prosecuted
under immigration and drug-related laws, while arrangements are ready for the
