THE opening ceremonies of the Yangon City Maha Thingyan Pavilion and the People’s Square Walking Thingyan Festival took place yesterday.

The opening ceremony of the Yangon City Maha Thingyan Pavilion in front of the Yangon City Hall in Kyauktada Township was attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu and his wife, Yangon Command Commander Brig-Gen Tun Min Lat and his wife, regional ministers and their wives, Yangon Mayor U Myo Myint Aung and his wife, other relevant officials, artistes, dance troupes and invitees.

Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu delivered an opening speech, and he cut the ceremonial ribbon together with Commander Brig-Gen Tin Min Lat and Mayor U Myo Myint Aung to inaugurate the festival.

The artistes performed with music, and Thingyan Yain dance troupes performed elegant dances, cheerfully celebrating the Maha Thingyan Festival.

The chief minister and his wife, and the party also attended the opening ceremony of the Walking Thingyan Festival at People’s Square in Dagon Township on the same morning.

The Walking Thingyan Festival features water pavilions and food stalls for the enthusiastic revellers.

In the 1387 ME water festival, there are many water-throwing pavilions and walking Thingyan areas in different districts and townships of Yangon on the first day of Thingyan.

Similarly, the Yangon Command and Police Force provide security measures, whereas the health workers and Red Cross Society members are ready for healthcare services for the revellers to participate in the festival peacefully. — Thitsa (MNA)/KTZH
