President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing received a delegation led by Mr Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, at the Presidential Palace Reception Hall in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
At the
meeting, the President expressed his honour and pleasure that Mr Xi Jinping,
President of the People’s Republic of China, was the first to send a
congratulatory message within hours of his election as President, demonstrating
his high regard. He also conveyed his gratitude that the Member of the
Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and
Minister of Foreign Affairs was the first to visit during the tenure of the
government led by him. The President added that the government will continue to
further strengthen relations and cooperation between Myanmar and China during
its tenure.
The Member
of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and
Minister of Foreign Affairs of China stated that Mr Xi Jinping, President of
the People’s Republic of China, had conveyed his congratulations and best
wishes on the election of Your Excellency as President of Myanmar. He noted
that China’s sending of a congratulatory message within hours of his election
and the dispatch of a delegation to attend the oath-taking ceremony
demonstrated the importance it attaches to Myanmar and its people. He also
expressed his belief that, under the leadership of Your Excellency, Myanmar
would become a country that achieves long-term development. He added that both
countries would continue to accelerate efforts on matters that would bring socioeconomic
benefits to their states and peoples, and he vowed that China would continue to
stand by and support Myanmar on the international landscape.
Furthermore,
they cordially exchanged views on the enhancement of diplomatic relations and
friendly relations between the two countries, the implementation of a community
with shared future between the two countries through thick and thin, and the
steadfast support of China in enabling Myanmar to move along a successful path
suited to its national conditions, with the backing of its people.
They also
frankly discussed that the continued firm support for Myanmar’s sovereignty,
territorial security, and stability, as well as the consistent support for
enabling the implementation of peace and stability in the country, national
reconciliation among ethnic groups, and social harmony within society.
Their
bilateral talks emphasized the further coordination and cooperation in the
peace and stability of border regions, facilitating smooth, swift, and
efficient trade flows and the efforts to restore the internal peace process,
China’s continued assistance in rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts
following the damage caused by the Mandalay earthquake, and the conditions
enabling Myanmar to further enhance international relations and cooperation in
the ASEAN community.
They talked
about Myanmar’s support for the four-point proposal put forward by Mr Xi
Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, for peace and stability
in the Middle East, and the Myanmar’s successful holding of a free and fair
multiparty democratic general election and, the government elected by the
people is firmly continuing along the democratic path, thereby enabling the
country to further enhance its participation and cooperation within ASEAN.
Moreover,
their discussions dealt with the situations to enhance cooperation in bilateral
border trade, energy and mining, agriculture and technological sectors, the
concerted efforts to combat telecommunication fraud and online gambling, and
the plan to accelerate the existing friendly ties and cooperation between the
two countries and peoples.
The
President and the Member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party
Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China exchanged
commemorative gifts and had documentary photos taken together with the
attendees.
Present at
the meeting together with the President were Union Minister at the President’s
Office U Khin Maung Yi, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Nyunt Win Swe,
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe and Vice-Chairman of the
National Solidarity and Peacemaking Central Committee Lt-Gen Yar Pyae. The
Member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee
and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China was accompanied by Ambassador Ms Ma
Jia of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, the Deputy Minister of
Foreign Affairs of China and delegation members.
