A ceremony to inaugurate the Advanced Thumingala Market took place in PyinOoLwin yesterday morning, graced by the presence of Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
On
the occasion, Commission Secretary General Ye Win Oo, Union Ministers U Mya Tun
Oo and U Myo Thant, Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung and Mandalay
Region Development Affairs Minister U Kyaw Hsan cut the ribbon to inaugurate
the market.
The
Senior General unveiled the signboard of the market and had documentary photos
taken together with attendees at the ceremony.
The
Senior General, the Commission Secretary, Union ministers and the Mandalay
Region chief minister sprinkled scented water on the plaque of the market.
They
viewed the selling of goods at the shops, the activities of children at the
playground and visited the cinema at the market.
At
the multipurpose hall of the market, the Senior General and attendees watched a
video clip on the history of the market and the progress of construction.
The
Mandalay Region chief minister presented a gift to mark the opening of the
market to the Senior General. They all enjoyed the song in honour of the market
opening ceremony.
The
regional chief minister spoke words of thanks for the construction of the
market.
After
the ceremony, the Senior General cordially greeted the attendees.
Also,
present at the ceremony were senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the
Commander-in-Chief, the commander of Central Command, deputy ministers, members
of the Mandalay Region cabinet, departmental officials and officials.
The
Advanced Thumingalar Market in PyinOoLwin was constructed under the guidance of
the Head of State to ensure the emergence of a new, modern market in line with
the town’s growing population density and increasing number of visitors. The
project aims to support urban development in accordance with modern systems and
to establish an RC-standard advanced market building that meets international
standards. It is also intended to enable the centralized trading of locally
produced basic commodities in one place and to improve the flow of goods
between hilly and plain areas. The new market is a six-storey RC-type building.
To facilitate convenient access for shoppers, it has been systematically
equipped with 12 escalators, six elevators, a solar-powered electricity supply
system, security systems, fire protection systems, and disaster-resilient
features. The advanced Thumingalar Market is branded shops, a promotion area,
cart shop areas, bank areas, a supermarket, mini-marts, retail stores, clothing
and cosmetics shops, grocery stores, restaurants, a playground, cinemas, and
systematically arranged parking facilities.
