A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Education Dr Chaw Chaw Sein is attending the UNESCO-organized International High-Level Officials’ Conference on “Current Trends in Inclusive Education”, held in Moscow, the Russian Federation, from 10 to 13 December.
The
plenary session of the conference opened at 9 am local time yesterday at
Miklukho-Maklaya St. 6 (RUDN University main building) in Moscow.
At
the opening ceremony, RUDN University President Filippov Vladimir Mikhailovich
presided over the session, and senior officials from various organizations in
the Russian Federation participated in the discussions.
During
the subsequent plenary session, the Union minister delivered a presentation
titled “Building an Inclusive Education System: Myanmar’s Efforts”. She
explained that Myanmar is actively implementing inclusive education, noting
that the 2008 Constitution and national education laws guarantee free basic
education and non-discriminatory access to schooling. She added that the
National Education Strategic Plan (NESP 2021–2030) also prioritizes equitable
access to education for all, including ethnic nationalities, persons with
disabilities, and those living in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
She
highlighted that, alongside basic education schools, Myanmar is working to
strengthen monastic education, non-formal education programmes, Early Childhood
Care and Development (ECCD) initiatives, and lifelong learning opportunities.
She noted that Myanmar is also promoting mother-tongue-based education,
supporting teachers with training for inclusive teaching methods, and ensuring
that an inclusive education system is implemented nationwide in the years ahead.
Ministers
and senior officials from Hungary, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, Iran, Kazakhstan,
Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the Central African Republic also took part in the
plenary discussions.
In
the afternoon, a closed meeting titled Development Meeting of International
Cooperation to Ensure Access to Quality Education was held, attended by
ministers, deputy ministers, and secretaries of UNESCO national commissions.
At
this meeting, Union Minister Dr Chaw Chaw Sein discussed Myanmar’s ongoing
international cooperation in the education sector, including collaboration
between universities and schools through MoUs and MoAs, joint programmes with
organizations such as AUN-AUA, progress made under the AUN-QA Accreditation
process, the work of the Myanmar National Commission for UNESCO, and efforts to
strengthen international partnerships in the field of education further.
