At the invitation of Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) Managing Director Dr Sheikh Mohammed Belal, Union Minister for Commerce U Chit Swe, Myanmar’s Governor for CFC, attended the 37th Governing Council Meeting of the CFC held in a hybrid format on 10 December 2025 in The Hague, the Netherlands, online and delivered a National Statement on behalf of Myanmar.
In
his national statement, the Union minister said that Myanmar is an
agriculture-based country and that CFC-supported projects in rubber, dairy and
meat, vegetables, bamboo, fisheries, and natural fertilizer production were
implemented with 11 other Asia-Pacific countries from 1999 to 2022, expressing
his gratitude to the CFC for the many benefits it has brought and his hope to
work more closely with the CFC in various sectors in the future, including
Myanmar’s agriculture, forestry, fisheries, SMEs, value-added production,
climate-resilient agriculture, and market access. He also stated that his
country is interested in modern and sustainable agricultural methods,
climate-resilient technologies, low-carbon agriculture, digital information
systems, and risk management, expressed his desire to receive CFC-supported
projects annually, and voiced his support for the CFC’s 2025-2035 strategic
framework.
The
37th session was attended in a hybrid format by representatives from 101 member
countries, private sector organizations, policymakers, development experts,
researchers, development partners, and observer countries, with governors from
36 countries delivering national statements and a delegation led by U Thant Sin
Oo, Minister Counsellor of the Myanmar Embassy in Brussels, Belgium, also in
attendance.
