Myanmar, Russia pledge deeper cooperation across multiple sectors


A delegation led by Mr Sholban Kara-Ool, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, who observed the electoral process of the multiparty democratic general election held in Myanmar, called on Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at the Bayintnaung Villa in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.

At the meeting, they exchanged views on observing the election process of Myanmar as a Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation together with international election observation teams, and witness in free and active participation of the voting people in casting ballots.

They also discussed prospects of emerging qualified candidates through the election to be able to carry out development undertakings for the State, plans to hold the elections in relevant phases, and conducting further phases of the election in the remaining townships.

Moreover, their discussions focused on the political progress in Myanmar, improvement of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, and the further promotion of cooperation in sectors of defence, economy, science and technology, education, legal affairs, culture, and parliaments.

After the meeting, the Senior General and the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation exchanged gifts and had documentary photos taken together with all attendees.

Also, present at the meeting were Secretary of the Commission General Ye Win Oo, Commission member Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, Union Minister for Finance and Revenue Dr Kan Zaw and officials. The Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of Russia was accompanied by Mr Iskander Azizov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Myanmar, and delegation members.
