Myanmar discusses strengthening regional disaster resilience


A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win, currently in Cambodia to attend the 13th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM), joined the dinner hosted by Cambodian officials on 15 October.
Yesterday morning, the Union minister called on Cambodian Prime Minister Mr Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet together with other ASEAN Ministers, and attended the opening ceremony of the 13th AMMDM and related meetings, and other events marking the disaster management day of Cambodia.

He also attended the fifth ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM) Plus China held at the Sofitel Hotel. During the meeting, he stated that thanks to the development and joint implementation of the ASEAN-China Cooperation Work Plan on Disaster Management (2021–2025) by the People’s Republic of China, positive outcomes have been achieved in the regions. He expressed gratitude for the immediate sending of search and rescue teams and emergency healthcare units during the Mandalay earthquake, providing humanitarian assistance and supporting rehabilitation activities. Myanmar will continue to actively participate in ASEAN-China cooperative initiatives to build an ASEAN region resilient to natural disasters.

At noon, he attended the fifth ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM) Plus Japan and expressed gratitude to Japan for participating in the Disaster Emergency Logistic System for ASEAN (DELSA) and sending healthcare units and relief items after the Mandalay earthquake.

He also attended the fourth ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM) Plus Korea.

The Rotating Chairmanship Cambodia handed over the chairmanship to Indonesia for the AMMDM 2026.
