Myanmar attends 13th AMMDM in Cambodia

A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win attended the 13th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM) and related meetings being held in Cambodia from 15 to 17 October.

The first day of the 13th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM) took place on 15 October, and Dr Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, and Kitte Sangahak Bandith Kun Kim, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions, First Vice President of the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Chair of ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDM) 2025, delivered speeches.

During the meeting, the Union minister stated that it has now been 20 years since the implementation of the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER). In ASEAN, the three community pillars political, economic, and socio-cultural have each been carrying out their respective responsibilities and activities in a unified and coordinated manner in line with regional agreements. In the socio-cultural community, particularly in relation to disaster management and emergency response activities, relevant ministries of member states have been cooperating openly, transparently, and in a spirit of friendship. As a result, over the past 20 years, disaster management activities have been carried out effectively to a certain extent.

He also appreciated the support of the ASEAN Secretary-General Office, AHA Centre, rescue teams and emergency healthcare services and relief items of ASEAN countries after the Mandalay earthquake, and highlighted these supports as “One ASEAN, One Response”, the successful implementation of AADMER Work Programme 2021-2025 and further cooperation for AADMER 2026- 2030.

At noon, the Union minister met with ASEAN Secretary General Dr Kao Kim Hourn and exchanged views on earthquake response and rehabilitation activities and regional disaster management activities.

The Myanmar delegation, led by the director-general of the Disaster Management Department, also attended the 47th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM) being held from 13 to 14 October in October.
