Statement on health condition of Pro Tem President U Myint Swe

SINCE early 2023, Pro Tem President U Myint Swe began experiencing sluggishness in movement and the ability to consume food and nutrients. As a result, a special medical team comprising specialist doctors conducted medical checkups.

According to the medical test results, it was found that he is suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, a neurological disorder characterized by delayed nerve responses, along with other related neurodegenerative conditions. Therefore, he was under medical treatment at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre in Singapore from 15 to 19 April 2024 and at the No 2 Defence Services General Hospital (1,000-bed) from 27 May to 18 June.

After he was discharged, he received medical treatments conducted by the special medics led by Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win. As his health condition has not improved yet, he has been receiving close medical treatments at his home after taking a medical leave starting from 18 July 2024.

In July 2025, he experienced weight loss, loss of appetite, fever, and a decline in cognitive function. Then, he took medical treatments at the No 2 Defence Services General Hospital (1,000-bed) again on 24 July. According to the results, the Pro Tem President U Myint Swe is currently in a critical condition, and he is now receiving intensive care at the Special Intensive Care Unit of the No 2 Defence Services General Hospital (1,000-bed).
