Deputy Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force Leader of Myanmar, Dr Wah Wah Maung, attended the 3rd ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force Meeting, which was held virtually on 15 July 2025.
The meeting
deliberated on key issues, including the implications of the US tariff
measures, the development of the ASEAN Integration Report in response to
emerging geoeconomics challenges, the deepening ASEAN-US Strategic Economic
Partnership and the plans of the Task Force.
During the
meeting, the deputy minister highlighted the importance of building resilience
and inclusive economic integration in response to the emerging geoeconomics
challenges. She also emphasized the need for enhanced synergy between Economic
and political streams to ensure a more coherent and effective regional
approach. In addition, the deputy minister underscored the need to consider
ASEAN centrality, enhance regional resilience, and secure the supply chains’
connectivity by advancing competitiveness in the formulation of the ASEAN
Integration Report (AIR). Furthermore, she also stressed the importance of data
inclusivity in the analytical foundation of the ASEAN Integration Report (AIR).
She also mentioned the necessity of reviewing the TIFA Workplan to identify
opportunities for further strengthening. She also reaffirmed strong commitments
to continued collaboration with other ASEAN Member States in advancing the
region’s shared economic visions.
The ASEAN
Geoeconomics Task Force was established based on the consensus of the Special
ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting, which was held virtually on 10 April 2025, to
provide real-time analysis, strategic foresight, assess the potential benefits
and vulnerability arising from current global trade changes, and provide
actionable policy recommendations to the ASEAN Economic Ministers. The Task
Force is composed of two representatives from each member state, at the deputy
minister level and a senior economic expert level.
