TWO individuals involved in trafficking women to China for forced marriage have been sentenced to 10 years in prison each.
The
Myanmar Police Force reported that Zaw Min San and Ma Thawda Min, from
Htantabin Village in Dekkhinathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, transported a
42-year-old woman from the same village to China in 2024. The offenders were
charged under Section 38(A) of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law, and their
cases were submitted to the court. On 29 April, the District Court of Lewe
sentenced the two arrestees, Zaw Min San and Ma Thawda Min, to 10 years each
for their roles in the human trafficking scheme.
It
was also reported that the absconding accused, Ma Ohmar Htwe (also known as Ma
Htwe or Yoon Nge), was declared an absconder under Sections 87/88 of the Law of
Criminal Procedure.
In
a separate case, the Myanmar Police Force reported that Aung San Oo, from
Swansaw Ward in Mengwong area, Muse Township, had transported a 17-year-old
girl from Yeyan Village in Kutkai District, Shan State (North), to China in
2024. The offender was charged under Sections 38(A)/44 of the Anti-Trafficking
in Persons Law, and the case was submitted to the court. On 28 April, the
District Court of Muse sentenced Aung San Oo to 20 years in prison for his role
in the human trafficking scheme.
Additionally,
it was reported that the absconding accused, Daw Wint Wah Htun and Daw Nan Aye
Say, were declared absconders under Sections 87/88 of the Law of Criminal
Procedure.
