Annual plans needed to meet inevitable rise in natural gas demand

 

THE oil and gas exploration and production industry, being capital-intensive and risky, must anticipate the inevitable future increase in natural gas demand for the manufacturing sector, including MSMEs, by implementing annual plans to meet this demand fully, while also increasing production from old wells in geologically mature fields, drilling new wells, and exploring new fields, according to Electricity and Energy Development Commission Chair, State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister, and Union Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Admiral Tin Aung San.

The Commission Chair made the remarks during his visit to the Myanma Oil & Gas Enterprise (MOGE)’s Aphyauk Natural Gas Field in Taikkyi Township, Yangon Region on 3 May, and the Maubin (South) Oil and Natural Gas Field in Maubin Township, Ayeyawady Region, to inspect the progress of oil and gas production and the ongoing 2D seismic survey for oil and gas exploration in the Sapagyisan-Natsingon area, Kungyangon Township, Yangon Region.

The Deputy Prime Minister visited the Aphyauk Natural Gas Field, where Deputy Minister for Energy U Thant Sin and MOGE officials reported on the conditions of natural gas exploration, the current operational status, plans for further production after re-examining, calculating, researching, and testing the thin sand layers of old wells, and the future work plans.

Following the presentations, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to replicate similar successes in other oil and natural gas fields to meet the country’s energy demands. Along with the Chief Minister of the Yangon Region Government, he provided food and financial support to oil field workers and stressed the importance of taking measures to enhance production in fields experiencing a decline.

The Admiral then inspected the natural gas production at Well No 56, which has enhanced output at the Aphyauk Natural Gas Field.

Then, he visited Well No 10 and 13 in the Maubin (South) oil and natural gas field to inspect the conditions of condensate and natural gas production after giving feedback on the presentations by the deputy minister and officials. Afterwards, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of the Ayeyawady Region Government provided food and financial assistance to oil field workers.

Next, they visited the 2D seismic survey site for oil and gas exploration in the Sapagyisan-Natsingone area of Kungyangon Township, Yangon Region, where officials provided an update on the progress.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to expedite the processing and interpretation of seismic data and to plan for drilling new wells in promising areas, before serving refreshments to the staff. He then inspected the progress of 2D seismic measurements and the recording of data for oil and gas exploration in the Sapagyisan-Natsingone area of Kungyangon Township.
