THE Facebook page “Khit Thit Media” shared false news on 20 February, claiming that authorities in Nay Pyi Taw were using drugs to trap and arrest young people.
The post also alleged that they were
extorting money, forcing them into the military, and threatening to charge them
under Section 19 (a) if they tried to escape.
After checking the facts, these
claims were reportedly untrue. The officer named in the report, Sergeant Aye
Aye Khaing, does not exist at Pyinmana Township Police Station. The post was
made to mislead the public and damage the reputation of the Myanmar Police
Force.
Officials stated that anyone with
real complaints about the police should report them properly. If any wrongdoing
is found, action will be taken. However, the post by Khit Thit Media was simply
fake news meant to create misunderstanding among the public.
