AFTER a five-year suspension, Yangon's renowned Yegyaw Funfair and Bazaar in Pazundaung Township has resumed its vibrant hustle and bustle, locals report.
The funfair and bazaar will be held for five days from 22 to 26 November to commemorate the National Victory Day in Myanmar.
"Funfair has jostling crowds. It was already overcrowded yesterday, the opening day. We are mobile vendors from one funfair to another. Among three or four festivals we have sold, Yegyaw is the most crowded and busiest bazaar. We sold different fries very well for about one million kyats yesterday," said a fry-and-fritter seller at the ongoing Yegyaw Funfair.
Yegyaw festival was last held in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic, and it resumed for the first time in 2024. Locals stated that streets in their wards were overcrowded again with visitors on 22 November. Yegyaw Funfair and Night Bazaar, one of the most popular and crowded festivals in Yangon, used to be held every year during the Thadingyut holidays.
